Outdoor Burning Rules & Regulations


City Ordinance No. 4155


The City of Clinton continues to provide the opportunity for citizens to participate in outdoor burning, as long as individual citizens abide to the rules and regulations set forth by the city government. The information provided below defines what is allowed and not allowed concerning outdoor burning.

Following these two steps will ensure you are compliant:

STEP 1:
  • Ensure that all debris in your burn pile follows the guidelines as stated below in the “Permitted Items/Items Not Permitted” section of this document.
  • Ensure that your burn site is a minimum of 50’ from any
  • Ensure that you have a working garden hose able to reach the burn
STEP 2:
  • Schedule your burn on a date that you can tend to the burn (You must be present with the burn pile until it has burned out completely!)
  • Call fire headquarters at (660) 885-2560 to request a burn (A member of the fire department will come to your home to inspect your burn pile.)
  • Pay $10 Burn Permit fee to fire department representative to acquire permit and begin burn.
 
Once you have obtained your burn permit, you are allowed to burn ONLY on the specific date to which the permit was issued.

Your burn pile MUST BE COMPLETELY EXTINGUISHED BY DARK

To burn again, you MUST contact fire headquarters and repeat the 2-step process above.

CitationCAN I BE ISSUED A CITATION?

YES! First offense for not following the rules and regulations is a verbal warning. Any offense after a verbal warning is subject to a citation for “Knowingly Burning”.

BURN PERMIT FEES
Single Day
: $10.00 (Cash or Check)
Permit is good until sunset on the date of issue

Annual: $100.00 (Cash or Check)
Available for purchase between October 1 and March 31
